St. Petersburg Times says Vote YES! on 10

In 2000, legislation to ban cruel and unnecessary gestation crates was introduced to the House Agricultural Committee where it died without even having a hearing. In light of the Florida legislature’s failure to act, Floridians for Humane Farms was created to enact popular reform.

In order to place an initiative on the November 2002 ballot to ban this inhumane practice, 489,000 signatures of registered Florida voters were required to be submitted to the Florida Secretary of State by July 2002.

On August 5, 2002, the Florida Secretary of State completed the signature verification process and certified The Florida Animal Cruelty Act for the November 2002 ballot. The measure will be listed on the ballot as Amendment 10.

Now the question of whether animals should be confined so intensely that they cannot turn around for 80 percent of their lives will go directly before The People of this state. Concerned citizens from every county will now have the chance to VOTE YES! on 10 for a more humane Florida...a state where people care about the use of cruel and inhumane gestation crates on factory farms.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE CAMPAIGN: From now through November 5, we will need help from volunteers across the state to build support for The Florida Animal Cruelty Act.
