The Florida Animal Cruelty Act (Amendment 10) is a citizen-sponsored ballot initiative. The primary goal of Amendment 10 is:

to prevent a person from confining a pig during pregnancy in an enclosure, or to tether a pig during pregnancy, on a farm in such a way that she is prevented from turning around freely.

This ballot measure provides the following exemptions:

• during the prebirthing period.
• when a pig is undergoing an examination, test, treatment or operation carried out for veterinary purposes, provided the period during which she is confined or tethered is not longer than reasonably necessary.
• when she has given birth and is housed with her piglets in a farrowing crate.

The exemptions for these are listed in section (b) of the Act.

Floridians for Humane Farms is promoting Amendment 10 through public outreach, endorsements, and assistance with campaign activities.
